Catch the Wind Kite Festival, Morecambe!
What a brilliant day! Morecambe Bay was a hive of activity on Sunday 25th June. From marathon runners to Kite Surfers, to Sylvester and Tweetie…. We saw it all! We had planned a visit to Morecambe to see the kites but were treated to a whole lot more. It was lovely walking along the prom, the sky adorned with a magical mix of kites swooping and diving in the wind.
Pop-up bands delighted the crowds, with their upbeat tunes, catchy rhythms and positive vibes. “Blast Furnace” was amazing! Guaranteed to raise a smile, this colour crew dance to their own tune! Also, “Boom Bike Bourrée,” a fantastic fusion of Medieval Beatboxing and a chance to see & hear a hurdy-gurdy!
The kites were fantastic, such a range of sizes and shapes from ladybugs creeping along the beach to “Where’s Wally?” floating high in the sky. I loved the scuba diver and a pair of kites that soared in tandem, perfectly synchronised and just mesmerising to watch.
A Fantastic Symphony!
The highlight of our afternoon was listening to a piece entitled “A Symphony in Celebration of Democracy, Socialism and Hope” composed & conducted by Pete Moser of More Music and performed by a 60 piece “street band,” a culmination of different groups we had heard throughout the day. This hour performance, showcasing the talents of classical players, samba drummers, tubas, trombones and electronics (to name but a few…) was fantastic.
To relax in a deckchair and enjoy a concert, played with such energy and passion, really was a delight. The conductor was great, enthusiastically jumping about, working hard to successfully pull something off which was new, different and innovative. It was brilliant to see such a wide age range of performers, from children to the more mature! A mixed bag of musical backgrounds bringing something special to Morecambe Bay.
The atmosphere in Morecambe was fantastic. People enjoying the opportunity to get out and about in the fresh air with their friends and families. Small stalls served delicious treats and snacks, the beers were flowing and ice creams loved by all.
A perfect end to a fab day!
After a wonderful afternoon, we finished up with a bag of chips on the prom. A perfect end to a fab day spent with our lovely sister and brother in law.
