Why Confucius?
Whilst on a tour of China in 2018 our guide made lots of reference to “Confucius,” a famous Chinese philosopher, teacher, politician & editor. I love sayings and proverbs especially those that offer valuable advice for a more meaningful way of living, or encouragement to develop a positive outlook. So, I felt compelled to find out more about this highly regarded, wise and inspirational figure. Coincidently, Confucius was quoted at the start of each new chapter of my latest fiction read “The Women at Number 24” by Juliet Ashton. I decided this was definitely a sign! Who is Confucius?
Kong Qiu, better known as Confucius, was born in 551B.C. in the Lu state of China and died in 479 B.C. Today he is widely considered one of the most influential teachers in Chinese history. One of Confucious’ guiding principles of life was, “Do not impose on others what you do not wish for yourself.” His teachings, preserved in the Analects, focused on creating ethical models of family and public interaction and setting educational standards. Confucianism later became the official imperial philosophy of China and was extremely influential during the Han, Tang and Song dynasties.
